MIGHTIEST
Mightiest is the name of a personal project of mine, made entirely for my own enjoyment. It consists of a story that I wrote (in the form/scope of an epic), a fictional universe that I created for said story, and some other bits and pieces. I made it over the course of 4 years: 2021-2024 inclusive.
All the information involved is written on a word document which is ~530 A4 pages. It's all written in 12-pt Times New Roman and there's no images. It's >220,000 words, ~24,000 lines, and around 1.4 million characters.

Creating Mightiest drew upon all of my skills and knowledge. I wanted to create a fictional world that nonetheless obeyed realistic rules- I therefore had to extensively research many academic fields in minute detail and integrate all of that knowledge into designing an intricate universe. To make the physical world, I read about tectonics, climatology, geography, and I personally designed all the continents. To then create all the societies and countries within that world, I had to draw on anthropology, theology, history, politics, economics, ethology, ethnography, sociology, and much more. I intricately created detailed religions, philosophies, cultural values, and sociocultural norms for fictional societies, ranging from pantheons to colour symbolism. The whole process spanned countless disciplines and was incredibly enjoyable.

History has always been something I'm passionate about, and to create this fictional world I had to study the history of a huge number of ethnocultural groups and countries. I studied the histories of Europe, China, Japan, North Africa, West Africa, East Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the pre-Columbian Americas, Polynesia, the Eurasian steppes, Mesopotamia, Anatolia and the Ottomans, and many more.

The story itself was even more challenging to create. I have extensive experience in creative writing- even when I was ~9 years old or so I'd print out stories I'd written at home and give them to my classmates. Nonetheless, the scope and complexity of this story exceeded anything I'd done by far.

I created eight intricate storylines, interweaving all of them together and painstakingly mapping out storyboards to ensure it all made sense. I designed dozens of characters, each with their own complex psychological profiles, personality metrics, and (when relevant) scientifically accurate psychopathologies.

More than that though, I wanted to make a story which wasn't just about politics and war but which had something important to say. Mightiest is a story about exploring the human psyche and human nature. It aims to show readers not just what historical societies and their characters were like but what can be learned from their struggles. The story of Mightiest explores religion, philosophy, morality, happiness, and what it means to be human.

All of this takes place amidst a deeply realistic and rich backdrop. At no point do I cut corners, give vague explanations, or rely on tired clichés to keep the story going. Nothing is improvised and every single story event is carefully picked to advance the story and have knock-on effects which become relevant later.

Mightiest has been a massive joy for me to make and I hope you enjoy checking it out as much as I did writing it!
